We sell both photographic prints and giclée prints. Both are printed from a digital file which is either created by drum scanning a transparency or by digital image capture. Scanned images are color corrected to match the original and blemishes such as dust and scratches are removed. We make every effort to make our images as representative of the original scene as possible. The photo labs we use have decades of experience producing the best quality prints.
The majority of our landscape images are captured with a 4×5 inch large format camera. Our large format images can be printed to 60 inches and larger in size. Some images, including travel and adventure, are shot with 35 mm or digital cameras which can typically produce prints up to 24 or 30 inches. If you are interested in a print larger than 24 inches, please contact us regarding the largest recommended print size for that particular image.
Print Dimensions: Most of our landscape images are shot with a 4×5 camera producing images with a height to width ratio of 1 to 1.25. 35 mm and many digital image formats have a height to width ratio of 1 to 1.5. This means that the proportions of our 4×5 images are the same as the standard frame sizes 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, etc. The 1 to 1.5 proportions of 35mm images are longer and thus create frame sizes of 8×12, 11×16, 16×24, etc.
Photographic Prints: Our images are printed digitally onto photographic paper with either a matte or glossy finish. Photographic prints may be purchaed as prints only, matted prints, or matted and framed prints.
Giclée Prints: (pronounced “zhee-clay”) fine art prints have the look and feel of an original piece of art and are truly stunning! These prints are very cost effective for larger sized prints and are much lighter and easier to hang than a framed print of equivalent size. Giclées are created by a special digital printing process which delivers a very fine spray of archival ink onto a sheet of acid free, richly textured canvas. The canvas is then hand coated for water proofing with semi-gloss varnish. The finished print resists curling and cracking and is excellent for stretching. Anticipated fade resistance is 100 years when displayed under proper conditions. Giclée prints are sold stretched and ready for hanging. Giclée prints may also be purchased un-stretched and rolled in a tube – ask for pricing on this option.
